G&R Custom Elevator Cabs was invited to partner with Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) architects and well-known elevator company, Schindler U.S.A. to provide design engineering and manufacturing of elevator cabs planned for Ross School of Business at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Three distinctive glass elevator cabs are planned for the atrium of the new building. Each will have one set of center opening doors, continuous tube handrails with stanchions and custom sleeves with brackets along the channel locations. These cars feature partially exposed, tiered stainless steel ceilings that extend views through partial walls of safety glass. Stainless steel sheathed sidewalls contrast with neutral sliced-walnut overlays and linger in the elegance of the punctuated glass seen in the other spaces of the building.

The external features of this cab (which are not pictured) include stainless steel shrouds and guard rails manufactured as one piece. Since the elevator cab is over 12” from the side of the hoistway in this particular building, safety code requires that the guardrails be at least 12 in height.

The project includes custom work for the elevators at Kresge Hall and the Executive Residence Hall. Once this project is completed we will share photos in our project gallery.
